Foo Fighters' Taylor Hawkins to Play Iggy Pop in CBGB Film

The cast is beginning to fill out for the forthcoming CBGB movie, titled, appropriately, CBGB. Alan Rickman has already been cast to portray club owner Hilly Kristal, and it was recently announced that Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins will play the role of Iggy Pop. Other recent castings include Mickey Summer as Patti Smith and The Big Bang Theory’s Johnny Galecki as Television manager Terry Ork.

CBGB has been in the works for over a year now, and producers are hoping to begin filming later this month. The film will focus on the iconic New York venue during its heyday in the mid-’70s when it helped springboard the careers of Patti Smith, The Ramones, Television and other punk acts.

The movie will be directed by Randall Miller, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jody Savin. Lisa Kristal Burgman, the daughter of club owner Hilly Kristal, has authorized the film, and is involved as a co-producer.
