George W. Bush And The Game Of Thrones Controversy

If there is one thing HBO’s Game of Thrones has in abundance, it’s decapitation. The disturbingly common practice even provided the show with one of its most shocking scenes. However, it is another decapitated head that is stirring controversy.

In the DVD commentary of the first season, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, creators of the hit television series, reveal that one of the bloody noggins that King Joffrey flaunts in front of Sansa Stark at the season’s conclusion has a well-known face — George W. Bush. The creators were quick to add that no political statement was intended and that they just had to “use what head we had lying around.” The head was in the scene for a brief second but has many viewers upset.

As Republicans call for a boycott, HBO has issued an apology as well as a promise to remove the image from future DVD production. This news comes before HBO airs its new documentary about George H.W. Bush tonight, titled 41.
