Nigel Godrich's From the Basement to Get 3D Third Season

With the announcement of its third television season today, Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich’s From the Basement continues its journey as The Little Podcast That Could.

The live music show—which features indie artists playing alone in small rooms like basements—started out as an iTunes podcast in 2006 and was converted into a U.K. television show around 2007. For its third season, From the Basement will make the leap into the 3D dimension on DirecTV channel 3net starting in July.

If the concept of Thom Yorke popping into your living room to play a set sounds a bit intrusive to you, you’re not alone: Godrich needed some convincing, too.

“I’m very careful about anything that seems like a gimmick, but the technology is so good and it looks so amazing. When you see a photograph of an Impressionist painting, it doesn’t really make sense until you go to France and stand in the museum and watch this thing vibrate in front of your face,” he said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

The show will also be available in good ‘ol fashioned 2D on the syndicated digital network Crackle starting in August. You can read an interview with Godrich and watch a preview clip of The Shins’ performance over at Entertainment Weekly.
