Russo Brothers Sign on for Captain America 2

They weren’t the biggest wigs on Marvel’s rumored shortlist, but it looks like former Community producers and brothers Anthony and Joe Russo have made the cut to direct the sequel to last year’s Captain America: The First Avenger </i, according to Variety.

The Russo brothers have an impressive resume when it comes to comedy—they directed the iconic pilot of Arrested Development and helm the new ABC series Happy Endings— but this is definitely their biggest gig yet. Especially considering the choice of Joss Whedon to produce this summer’s biggest blockbuster, The Avengers, this seems like a move on the part of Marvel Studios to look at lesser-knowns as directors and to emphasize the comic aspects of the classic superhero story. The movie release is slated for April 4, 2014.
