As a fictitious thriller, The Imposter might leave audiences barely batting an eye. But as a documentary, it’s bizarre, frightening and above all, true. The film combines stylish re-enactments with real footage and interviews to unfold an award-winning feature.

On June 13, 1994, 13-year-old Texas boy Nicholas Barclay went missing. Three years later, he is reunited with his family after supposedly being kidnapped and tortured. But the boy is not what he seems, and a web of deception and mystery quickly envelope the family.
