In late spring this year, The Avengers assembled in theaters across the world, becoming one of the most successful summer blockbusters of recent memory (yes, we know Dark Knight Rises is doing well, too).
But now Marvel, along with ABC and ABC Studios, are in talks for a possible TV show inspired by Joss Whedon’s successful film. According to Deadline, “the connection to the Avengers franchise would be light as the project is expected to be set in the universe and feature some of its themes and feel, but may not include any characters from Joss Whedon’s blockbuster.”
The project has been described as a “kernel of an idea,” so it’s unclear whether these rumors will grow and bear super-powered, ass-kicking fruit. Reportedly, a few ideas have been considered including a Marvel Universe cop show. Of course, Marvel already has a commanding animated presence on Disney XD with The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, but this project could finally bring Marvel to primetime television.
