Anthony Mackie in Talks to Play Falcon in New Captain America Film

Last weekend, Comic-Con brought news about Captain America’s upcoming sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. More news arrives as Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker, The Adjustment Bureau) is in talks to play Falcon. Sam Wilson, the Falcon’s alter ego, was originally created by Stan Lee and Gene Colan in 1969 and shares a link with, you guessed it, falcons. Another item in his list of aviary talents is his ability to fly.

The superhero regularly teams up with Cap and is a good choice for Steve Roger’s 21st-century sidekick. Falcon also heralds in Marvel’s first minority superhero in film—Samuel L. Jackson’s badassery does not count as a superpower. The film will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and is due to release April 4, 2014.
