Christopher Owens Leaves Girls

Chris Owens, the lead singer and songwriter for the San Francisco band Girls, recently announced on his Twitter feed that he will be leaving the band.

Here is Owens’ message, which he delivered in three tweets:

1) Dear all, This may come as a surprise to many & has been an issue of much thought for me. My decision was not easy to make

2) I am leaving Girls. My reasons at this time are personal. I need to do this in order to progress

3) I will continue to write & record music. More will be announced soon. I thank you all for everything. Sincerely—Christopher.

At its core, Girls was Owens and bassist and producer Chet “JR” White. They released three albums since 2009, all on True Panther Sounds. Their most recent release, Father, Son, Holy Ghost, was widely hailed as one of the best albums of 2011.
