Emmy Nominees Announced
The Emmy nominees were announced this morning, and there are no big surprises. As has been the case in recent years, the cable networks—and in particular premium networks such as HBO and Showtime—have dominated the nominations.
The most intriguing category is Outstanding Drama Series. None of the shows nominated came from any of the big four networks, and Mad Men will be going for its record fifth consecutive win in the category. Shows such as Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire stand in its way.
Girls and Veep, HBO’s new female-fronted comedies, drew nods for Outstanding Comedy Series, and its stars—Lena Dunham and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, respectively—will be vying for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
Check out a full list of the nominations below. The Emmy’s will be awarded Sept. 23 on ABC.
