Square Enix is all about sequels these days, and now it looks like they might even go as far as a Final Fantasy XIII trilogy. Eurogamer reports that the company is hinting at extending the Final Fantasy XIII universe into three games. Spoilers beyond, so arm yourselves or turn back now.
It’s well known that XIII-2 ended on “to be continued.” Although much of this was related to upcoming downloadable content, even that left fans with questions.
According to Eurogamer, XIII and XIII-2 director Motomu Toriyama told Japanese magazine Famitsu: “The [Final Fantasy XIII-2] Lightning download content had an ending that left a feeling of mystery and hope. The day when the meaning of this will come to light is not too far off.”
A Final Fantasy XIII related announcement is on its way—perhaps sooner than you’d think. An upcoming event planned for Aug. 31 at an art gallery in Shibuya, Tokyo, may bring answers.
