Listen to Jim James Cover "St. James Infirmary" with The Preservation Hall Jazz Band

For 50 years now, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band has served as house band for—you guessed it—New Orleans’ Preservation Hall.

To celebrate half a century of venue-dom, the Band has announced a commemorative live album called St. Peter and 57th that will include contributions from a broad swath of entertainers, including tUnE-yArDs’ Merrill Garbus, My Morning Jacket, Mos Def, Allen Tossaint, Ed Helms, Givers and Steve Earle.

St. Peter and 57th was recorded during a January performance at Carnegie Hall. It’ll come out on Sep. 27 via Rounder Records. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Preservation Hall Musical Outreach Program.

For the price of just an email address, you can get an mp3 of My Morning Jacket’s Jim James performing the blues classic “St. James Infirmary" below.
