Look At Preview Photos for Disney's Animated Short, Paperman
It’s not exactly news that Disney will be releasing a short animated film before it’s video game-inspired full-length film, Wreck-It Ralph. Disney has made a such a pairing common practice, especially with Pixar films. But it’s the way that Disney’s newest short film, Paperman, was created that is making headlines. The film will fuse “new” Disney with “old” Disney. In other words, the film will combine the depth and clarity of 3D digital animation but using traditional line art.
Could this be the return of hand-drawn animation? Director John Karhs, who was also an animator on The Incredibles and Tangled, told Entertainment Weekly: “Drawing can have a really powerful, visceral effect on the viewer…But it can’t just be the same thing it was. I think for 2-D to be revitalized, you have to figure out a way to make it new again.”
Yesterday, Entertainment Weekly released photos from the upcoming film, which you can see below.
