Mountain Goats Celebrate 40,000 Twitter Followers With Free Song

The Mountain Goats’ John Darnielle seems to be treating his Twitter page like a Foursquare by unlocking something new when a certain number is reached. Darnielle released “Thucydides II-58” when he hit 25,000 Twitter followers, and the fans unlocked another achievement by banding together 40,000 strong: a song titled “All Devils Here Now.”

The song is an old demo, recorded in between 2003’s Tallahassee and 2004’s We Shall All Be Healed, and features “real Iowa bugs” as authentic flourishes of noise in the background.

The Mountain Goats are currently gearing up for three one-off dates, one in Florida and two stops in North Carolina. Download the song here, and check out the tour dates below.

Mountain Goats Tour Dates:
28 - St. Petersburg, Fla. @ Antiwarpt Festival

6-8 - Raleigh, N.C. @ Hopscotch Festival

6 - Durham, N.C. @ Reynolds Industries Theatre (with Anonymous 4)
