The week ended on a tragic note following the events at a Dark Knight Rises midnight screening in Aurora, Colo. As a result, Warner Bros. considered pulling the film from theaters across the nation, which ultimately did not happen.
This week found lots of new material to dig into. Danny Brown hooked up with AraabMuzik to release “Molly Ringwald,” much to the delight of ’80s movie fans. Tyler, the Creator and Toro y Moi also hit the studio and unleashed “Hey You,” which the Creator himself describes as an unfinished song perfect for “Summmmmaa Taaammm!”
The Who are at it again, announcing a tour performing mostly material from Quadrophenia, along with a few other Who hits.
Ben Folds Five fans and piano rock enthusiasts rejoice: a new album is on its way. College radio stations are about to have a whole lot more ivory on their airwaves. Announcements of new albums also came from Bob Dylan, Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie and Mumford & Sons.
The wheels for this year’s Emmys, television’s biggest night, are in motion with the announcement of this year’s nominees. Let the office betting pools begin.
An Adventures of Pete & Pete reunion show is set to happen in Los Angeles, Calif., in late August, though it’s unclear whether flannel plaid hats are required for all audience members.
Undead enthusiasts can tide themselves over while they wait for season three of The Walking Dead to premiere with a just-released trailer. Those trying to steer clear of spoilers should give it a wide berth, along with the Internet in general, until the premiere.
Finally, in an unexpected turn of events, Johnny Depp has been cast in Wes Anderson’s next movie.
