This Week in News

This week featured a number of notable album announcements, none bigger than Pinback’s news that they will be releasing their first full-length album in five years on Oct. 2. Also with new releases on the way are Deerhoof, The Sea and Cake, Caribou’s Dan Snaith, Crystal Castles and A.C. Newman of The New Pornographers, who will be releasing his third solo album this fall.

In more somber news, The Jeffersons star Sherman Hemsley passed away at the age of 74. The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan released a statement responding to the tragic shooting that took place in an Aurora, Colo. theater premiering his film. Batman himself, Christian Bale, paid some of the surviving victims a visit.

With the Dark Knight trilogy in the books, Superman is up next. Watch two trailers for Man of Steel, which is due out in 2013, here. Coming out later in 2012 are Ang Lee’s Life of Pi and the Wachowski’s Cloud Atlas, which stars Tom Hanks. Watch trailers by clicking on the film titles.

In TV news, the cast of Modern Family decided to sue 20th Century Fox instead of attending the first table read of the fourth season. The cast reconvened for the table read a day later, but a lawsuit will still be pursued.
