Last month, Austin’s The Statesman reported that Austin City Limits organizers, specifically festival promoter C3 Presents, were exploring the possibility of adding a second weekend to the festival starting in 2013. The move would follow in the footsteps of Coachella, which successfully added a second weekend of performances this year.
C3’s only hurdle was receiving approval from the Austin City Council, and earlier today KUT News reported that the City Council unanimously approved a resolution that will allow the festival to expand, beginning next year. The resolution encourages Austin City Manager Marc Ott “to negotiate and execute an agreement with C3 Presents to include an additional weekend for the Austin City Limits Music Festival.”
C3 has agreed to use a portion of the festival’s proceeds to fund security, cleanup and to help improve Austin’s parks. Under the two-weekend format, ACL would take place Oct. 4-6 and 11-13 in 2013.
