Toronto musician Diamond Rings has a new album, titled Free Dimensional, due on Oct. 23 via Astralwerks. He took to KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic yesterday to debut a bunch of new material from the album. The new songs follow 2010’s quite good release Special Affections.
Included in the KCRW set is standout jam “Runaway Love,” which opens the session and burns with fiery intensity. Diamond Rings, which in the past had been just the solo John O’Regan in studio and live, is now a full live band, and that change results in a bigger sound that will allow O’Regan more freedom in his stage antics.
Also included in the session is a cover of Smashing Pumpkins “Disarm,” which O’Regan admits is one of the first songs that he ever learned on guitar. Check out the full session below and look for Diamond Rings’ new album out this fall.
