Exclusive: Benjamin Gibbard Reveals Former Lives Artwork, Fall Tour
As previously reported, Death Cab for Cutie’s Benjamin Gibbard is set to release his first solo album, Former Lives, on Oct. 16. And now we’re excited to release the first look at album’s art, which you can see below. The album’s art was created by Joan Hiller, who has also done cover art for Laura Gibson and Dave Depper.
“These songs haven’t been so much ‘old songs,’” Gibbard told Paste about Former Lives. “There are songs that are relatively new and some songs go back to 2004. I didn’t record with the idea of it being a long record. I just found myself with enough surplus material, and I wanted to do more recording. I was doing songs for Codes and Keys and I found myself with time and a place to do this record.”
Gibbard is also set to embark on a 13-date North American tour starting on Oct. 14 in Toronto. The dates, which wrap up on Nov. 14 in Los Angeles, will include Advance Base and Damien Jurado as opening acts. Additional dates are expected to be announced later in the Pacific Northwest.
Former Lives is set for release on Barsuk records on Oct. 16. Take a look at the album art and tour dates below. Pre-sale tickets for this tour will be held exclusively for Death Cab for Cutie fan club members beginning on Aug. 15 at noon local venue time.
