Great Gatsby Release Pushed to Summer of 2013
Baz Luhrmann’s take on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel The Great Gatsby was originally set to go head-to-head with Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained on Christmas Day, but Warner Brothers recently announced that they will be pushing back the release date to the summer of 2013.
The Great Gatsby has already seen a number of big screen adaptations, but Luhrmann’s version, which was shot in 3D, looks to be a far more vibrant and modern take on Fitzgerald’s 1925 meditation on the American Dream. Luhrmann also directed the 1996 film Romeo + Juliet, which took a similarly modernized approach to Shakespeare’s classic play.
Luhrmann’s Gastby will star Tobey Maguire, Isla Fisher, Carey Mulligan and Leonardo DiCaprio. So for those of you planning on doubling up on Leo come Christmas time (DiCaprio also stars in Django Unchained), unfortunately you’ll have to wait another few months to catch his portrayal of Jay Gatsby.
