Nope, LCD Soundsystem isn’t reforming—rather James Murphy will be directing a short film as his next project.
Fresh off the heels of the LCD Soundsystem documentary, Shut Up and Play the Hits, Murphy will take on the new film as part of Canon’s Project Imaginat10n campaign. He is only one of various celebrities taking part in the project, where they will be creating shorts based on still photographs that anyone can upload to the Project Imaginat10n site. His film is currently set to start production in early 2013, and it’s release should be within the year.
Murphy will not be the only big name taking part in the project, as Eva Longoria, Jamie Foxx and Twitter co-founder Biz Stone will all be participating. Ron Howard will also be mentoring everyone through their various shorts.
While LCD Soundsystem is done for, do not fear that Murphy has quit writing music as he is currently building a new studio in Brooklyn. According to Pitchfork, he’s just taking on a new mindset toward creating music: “I’m just trying to have fun and work in slightly different ways than I have before and not worry about whether things come out at all.”
