Jimmy Fallon has successfully reached late-night talk show greatness after scoring The Roots as a house band and convincing President Obama to slow jam the news. Now the 37-year-old comedian is in talks to host the biggest night in Hollywood—the Oscars. According to the Los Angeles Times, Fallon, with SNL guru Lorne Michaels producing, is in talks to assume hosting duties for the 85th annual Academy Awards.
But ABC is objecting to the choice on the ground that the NBC rival host is in direct competition with ABC’s own host, Jimmy Kimmel. Although the Academy Awards air on ABC, it’s the academy president who selects the producer who then in turn selects the host. Fallon has hosted award ceremonies before, including the Emmys in 2010. Kimmel is set to host the Emmys this year, effectively putting him out of the running for the Oscar hosting gig.
