New York City Ballet Production to Feature Sufjan Stevens' Music

On Oct. 5, Justin Peck, a New York-based dancer and choreographer, is set to put on a new ballet set to 30 minutes of Sufjan Stevens’ music. The piece, titled “Year of the Rabbit” will take place at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater and will be performed by 18 New York City Ballet dancers accompanied by a live orchestra.

Peck collaborated with Stevens back in 2010 for “Tales of a Chinese Zodiac”—a creation for the New York Choreographic Institute. “Year of the Rabbit” is an expansion of that project and will feature newly orchestrated arrangements of his 2009 album Run Rabbit Run, which was his 2001 electronic album Enjoy Your Rabbit reinvented as an orchestral work by Brooklyn quartet Osso.

The arrangements for “Year of the Rabbit” were done by Peck, Stevens and Run Rabbit Run contributor Michael Atkinson. Check out a video of Osso performing “Year of the Boar” from Run Rabbit Run below.
