Biopic About Chewbacca Actor Peter Mayhew in the Works

Everyone’s favorite walking carpet is getting his own film. Alright, maybe not Chewbacca himself, but the man in the suit, Peter Mayhew, will be the subject of an upcoming film written by Evan Susser and Van Robichaux. Director Kyle Newman will develop the film, which focuses on the life of Peter Mayhew during the creation of Star Wars. Mayhew, who stands at over seven feet, spent 1976-77 as a part-time hospital worker and a part-time Wookie.

Newman directed the 2009 Fanboys, which is a touching tribute to fans of the franchise featuring four dedicated Star Wars fans as they race across the country to see the much anticipated Phantom Menace at Skywalker ranch. The many in-jokes in the film provide evidence that Newman cares about the material.

After not garnering medal attention from Princess Leia at the end of Star Wars, Chewie is finally receiving the credit he deserves.
