This Week In News
Perhaps the most exciting (yet cryptic) news of the week came in the form of not one, but two photos posted on Tom Waits’ Facebook page reading “Coming August 7.” The Avett Brothers released details about their next album, while Bob Dylan released a song from his upcoming album and Kanye West released the artwork for his next LP, Cruel Summer. Yeasayer turned a negative into a positive by scattering visualizations of their new songs all across the Internet, offering an early listen to the new album before it could be leaked by an outside party. But hurry, they’ll be taken down at 8:00 p.m. tonight.
Snoop Dogg the rapper has gone to the rainbow bridge and has been replaced by Snoop Lion, the reggae artist. Stephen Colbert has decided to dip his toe in the summer festival pool by hosting StePhest Colbchella and enlisting the musical help of Santigold, Fun. and Grandmaster Flash. But don’t push Colbert; he may be close to the edge (of the proverbial pool).
In moving picture news, Jimmy Fallon has been tapped to host the 85th Academy Awards, though it’s likely he won’t be able to take the post due to a network conflict of interest. A Prometheus sequel has been confirmed, and a Bad Santa sequel is reportedly in the works. Peter Jackson confirmed that The Hobbit will be split into three movies, and there’s a new Skyfall teaser trailer for Bond fans to enjoy.
