?uestlove to Relaunch Okayplayer Records

Billboard has reported that The Roots’ ?uestlove will be relaunching his own Okayplayer Records after an eight-year hiatus. The rebooted version of Okayplayer will be strictly digital and its first releases will be by Atlanta rapper Danny! and recording engineer Young Guru.

?uestlove originally formed the label in 1999, and it quickly became associated with artists such as Common, Erykah Badu and Mos Def. Its last release was a 2004 compilation titled True Notes, Vol. 1.

“I’ve been waiting years for the right moment to re-launch the label and I’m eager to kick things off with Danny!” said ?uestlove.

Following Danny!’s release, Okayplayer will put out Young Guru: Essentials Vol 1, which will mark the New York engineer’s debut as a solo artist. Young Guru has mixed 11 of Jay-Z’s albums and is scheduled to release two additional solo volumes on Okayplayer.
