Watch the First Teaser for Brandon Cronenberg's Antiviral
Everyone loves celebrity gossip. Even if you hate it, you can’t escape it. Apparently, Brandon Cronenberg, son of influential director David Cronenberg, feels the same way according to the first trailer for his horror/medical/sci-fi debut film, Antiviral. Starring Caleb Landry Jones, Sarah Gadon and Malcolm McDowell, Antiviral is the story of a future where celebrity worship has become so ravenous that fans want to share everything with their idols, including disease.
The trailer is filled with lush visuals demonstrating the young Cronenberg’s impressive technical understanding of directing, even if some techniques are reminiscent of papa Cronenberg’s filmography.
The short teaser is basically a short commercial for The Lucas Clinic, the company responsible for supplying their eager patrons with celebrity diseases. It’s become commonplace for sci-fi films to undergo a viral campaign with Prometheus releasing a couple videos earlier this year, and Robocop also jumped on the advertising bandwagon.
Antiviral competed for the Un Certain Regard at Cannes Film Festival this year. The film will be released by IFC and Alliance Films, but a date has not been announced. You can watch the viral video and trailer below.
