Documentary to be Produced Based on Roger Ebert’s Memoir
Roger Ebert is considered perhaps the most well known film critic in history, so it’s no surprise that he’ll have a documentary produced based on his 2011 memoir Life Itself. Furthermore, some of world’s most famous filmmakers will be involved in the film’s creation.
Famed documentarian Steve James (Hoop Dreams) and Oscar-winning Steve Zailian (Schindler’s List) have optioned the rights Ebert’s memoir. In addition, iconic director Martin Scorsese will be the executive producer on the project.
Though Ebert is best known for his long running TV movie review show, Siskel and Ebert, the film critic has seen many trials over the years. Most notably, Ebert fought a battle with thyroid cancer that left him unable to speak, eat or drink. But despite these setbacks, in recent years Ebert has reacted to his struggles by becoming more active with his readers than ever before and remains very much at the front of the film criticism world.
