FX, The League Sued for Copyright Infringement

Although football season is underway, FX and The League co-creator/executive producer Jeff Schaffer will probably be focusing more on their fantasy legal teams than the ones throwing around the pigskin.

Deadline reports that writers Joseph Balsamo and Peter Ciancarelli are suing FX and Schaffer due to the eerie resemblance of the duo’s 2006 script for The Commissioner and the FX comedy that premiered in 2009.

The suit alleges that “given the numerous and striking similarities between the two works, there can be no dispute that Defendants Schaffer and/or FX had access to and copied protectable elements of the Treatment"—which the duo put online to attract attention—and they are seeking “unspecified damages based on profits derived from the infringement as well as legal fees.”

As of right now, The League is still set to kick off its fourth season on Oct. 11 at 10:30 p.m.
