James Gandolfini to Star in HBO Pilot

Sopranos star James Gandolfini has been tapped to star in a new HBO pilot, Deadline reports. The show will be called Criminal Justice, and will be based on a 2008 BBC series of the same name. Not surprisingly, Criminal Justice will be a crime drama set in New York. Gandolfini will play Jack Stone, a prisoner lawyer who takes up the case of a Pakistani inmate.

The pilot, which will be directed by Steven Zaillian (who wrote Schindler’s List) and written by Richard Price (The Color of Money), will begin shooting this fall in New York City. Gandolfini will also serve as an executive producer.

The original BBC version of Criminal Justice ran for two five-episode seasons.
