The Great Gatsby Gets May 2013 Release Date
Last month it was reported that after originally being scheduled for a Christmas Day release, Baz Luhrmann’s film adaptation of The Great Gatsby starring Leonard DiCaprio wouldn’t, in fact, be hitting theaters until sometime in the summer of 2013. Now, Warner Bros. has announced an official release date: May 10, 2013.
Luhrmann’s take on the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, which was shot in 3D, looks to be a more thrilling, action-packed adaptation than we have seen from past Gatsby films. Luhrmann also directed 1996’s Romeo + Juliet and 2001’s Moulin Rouge!. Hollywood’s last take on the novel came in 2000 and starred Mira Sorvino, Toby Stephens and Paul Rudd. Perhaps the best known film version, however, came in 1974, with Robert Redford playing the role of Jay Gatsby.
Leonardo DiCaprio will portray Gatsby in Luhrmann’s version alongside Carey Mulligan (Daisy Buchanan), Joel Edgerton (Tom Buchanan), Isla Fisher (Myrtle Wilson) and Tobey Maguire (Nick Carraway).
