Third Hobbit Film gets Summer 2014 Release

The third installment in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy is set to be released on July 18, 2014. This will be the first of the six films based on the J.R.R. Tolkien series to not receive a winter holiday premiere. The film hopes to capitalize on the same weekend that garnered top results for Christopher Nolan’s two Dark Knight films.

In addition to this announcement, the film has officially been given the title The Hobbit: There And Back Again, the title originally given to the second film (back when it was thought to be only two films). As a result, the second film has been given the new title The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

The first film of the trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, is set to be released later this year on December 14 in 2D, 3D, IMAX and 3D 48 frames per second.
