Andrew Bird is setting out to tour his upcoming album, Hands of Glory, but not in the typical fashion. Bird’s tour will be funded by the crowd through a contest on Songkick, according to Pitchfork.
Hands of Glory is the companion piece to Break It Yourself, which was released earlier this year in March. The new album features alternative takes on some of the tracks released on Break It Yourself as well as covers of various artists including Townes Van Zandt, The Handsome Family, Alpha Consumer and The Carter Family.
The contest is for Bird’s tour in Latin America in February. Fans in 12 different cities in nine counties can make a monetary pledge towards having a concert in their area. The first six cities that reach 250 pledges will win a performance from Bird and he will turn the winning pledges into tickets.
The cities that are eligible to win the contest are Bogotá, Colombia, Caracas, Venezuela, Guadalajara, Mexico, Lima, Peru, Mexico City, Mexico, Monterrey, Mexico, Montevideo, Uruguay, Panama City, Panama, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Santiago, Chile, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and São Paulo, Brazil.
Bird’s Latin American tour will take place in February, but before he heads down South, Bird will perform a couple solo shows in New York and Chicago in December. These performances will be small intimate shows that take place in churches and will focus more on Bird’s instrumental pieces.
Hands of Glory doesn’t come out until Oct. 30 but currently the entire album is streaming via Guardian. Be sure to look below at a list of some of Bird’s tour dates.
