In a June interview with Pitchfork, Fiona Apple hinted that she would be contributing a song to the upcoming Judd Apatow film, This Is 40. As the release date approaches, we have more concrete evidence that supports this claim.
The Huffinton Post reports that the song, titled “Dull Tool,” is an original contribution and opens her up to the possibility of receiving an Oscar nomination. Apple is no stranger to movie soundtracks, having lent her voice to 1998’s Pleasantville and 2011’s Bridesmaids, though this is the first original song. The singer’s motivation to become involved likely stems from the fact that her frequent collaborator, Jon Brion, scored the film.
This Is 40 stars Paul Rudd, Jason Segel and Leslie Mann and is a spin-off of 2007’s Knocked Up, also directed by Apatow. It arrives in theaters Dec. 21. Check out the trailer below.
