Paul McCartney took a very simple approach when it came time for him to record his holiday classic for the upcoming compilation album Holidays Rule.
McCartney’s rendition of “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)” is a simple jazz song. There are no bells and whistles, but instead a quiet piano being accompanied by McCartney’s caressing vocals.
McCartney is joined by many other talented artists on Holidays Rule. The compilation album features music from Shins, fun., Rufus Wainwright and Sharon Van Etten, The Head and the Heart, Calexico, The Civil Wars and finally Andrew Bird. Holidays Rule comes out on Oct. 30. Get into the holiday spirit a little early and listen to McCartney’s jazzy rendition of “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)” here.
