Shailene Woodley to Play Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Golden Globe nominee Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) has nabbed the coveted role of Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, THR reported.

The film, which is expected to be released in 2014, will reportedly only feature Woodley in a minor capacity, building towards a much meatier role in the third film “as the studio seeks to build to the classic ‘Death of Gwen Stacy’ story.”

The first film in the updated take on the Spider-Man franchise starred Andrew Garfield as the superhero opposite Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy. It grossed over $700 million worldwide.
