Simpsons Holding Contest for Fan-Created "Couch Gag" to Appear in Show
Even if you’re not a routine viewer of The Simpsons, chances are you’re at least aware of the shows ongoing “couch gag.” Near the end of the opening credits of each episode, the family convenes in their living room to watch television on their couch, though each time the animators present this running gag in a unique and entertaining way.
Now Simpsons producers are allowing fans to enhance their involvement in the show—beyond merely watching the episodes to becoming a contributing factor in the creative process—with a new contest.
Fans with ideas for a “couch gag” can contribute their ideas here by Nov. 15. The show’s producers will narrow the submissions down to three finalists in Jan. 2013, which will then be voted on by fans. The winning illustration will be animated by The Simpsons animation house Film Roman and will air during the May 2013 season finale.
