Chevy Chase Leaves Community

Deadline reports that Chevy Chase has left Community effective immediately. While the majority of the upcoming fourth season’s 13 episodes have already been shot, Chase’s character Pierce Hawthorne will not appear in the remaining few that have not been filmed.

The news shouldn’t come as a shock to fans who have followed the show closely; there have been doubts about Chase’s future on Community after a profanity-laden voicemail from him to former showrunner Dan Harmon leaked online. Chase also recently reportedly dropped the N-bomb on set while complaining about his character’s bigotry, and back in September he called his involvement with the show “a huge mistake” and referred to sitcoms as “the lowest form of television.”

Season four of Community will premiere on NBC on Feb. 7.
