J.J. Abrams Eyes Animated Film

Continually broadening his directorial horizons, J.J. Abrams is looking to file animation under the long list of film types that make up his impressive credits. Abrams has acquired the rights to Beastlies, a line of monster figurines hand-sculpted and sold by artist Leslie Levings through her Etsy store.

As of now, that is all of the information available regarding the figurines; there is no known backstory or mythology surrounding the characters that could shed light on to the possible storylines for a feature film.

Levings confirmed her collaboration with Abrams through Twitter, and a source for Latino Review is reporting that the idea is to turn the Beastlies into “the modern day equivalent of the Smurfs.”
