McSweeney's Announces Hour-Long Radio Special Starring Wayne Coyne

Off-beat publisher and website McSweeney’s has announced that they’ve commissioned writer Richard Parks to create an hour-long “War of the Worlds”-style radio special featuring Wayne Coyne and The Flaming Lips.

The program is expected to revolve around a human head-shaped tumor growing in Coyne’s leg, and will include plenty of sound effects as well as music by The Flaming Lips, Okkervil River’s Will Sheff, Eleanor Friedberger of the Fiery Furnaces, Bill Callahan, Edward Droste of Grizzly Bear and more. Also featured will be Paul F. Tompkins and This American Life’s Jack Hitt.

Considering the major players are McSweeney’s, Wayne Coyne and a human head-shaped tumor, it’s impossible to even begin to imagine what exactly to expect. The show is scheduled to air Nov. 24 and 25 at 5 p.m. Pacific Time on KCRW, 88.9 in Los Angeles. The show can be streamed online at KCRW.com. For more info, visit McSweeney’s here.
