Last February, Jim James of My Morning Jacket revealed in an interview with Paste that he was working on a solo album. Now, James has returned to announce his full-length solo debut LP, Regions of Light and Sound of God.
According to Pitchfork, James plays every instrument and oversaw all of the engineering. James cites Lynd Ward’s 1929 graphic novel God’s Man as his primary influence.
“I wanted the album to sound like it came from a different place in time. Perhaps sounding as if it were the past of the future, if that makes any sense- like a hazy dream that a fully-realized android or humanoid capable of thought might have when it reminisces about the good old days of just being a simple robot” James said in a press release.
The album is due out Feb. 5 via ATO, and the single “Know Til Now,” is available for download below.
