Tweets of the Week: Election Edition
As expected, Twitter was running at capacity all day and into early Wednesday morning for the presidential election. From when the polls opening at 7 a.m. to Obama’s victory speech at around 1:30 a.m. eastern time, there were so many tweets poking fun at the entire process that we’ve decided to feature nothing but election tweets this week.
As for broken records, the most notable is Barack Obama’s “Four more years” tweet with a picture of Michelle and him hugging attached, which shattered the record for the most retweets of all-time. As I write this, it has been retweeted just under 800,000 times, more than tripling the previous record of just over 200,000, set by Justin Bieber in September.
The election tweets featured below have been ordered chronologically, more or less, for your convenience, taking you through the entire day as it unfolded on Twitter.
