With the help of Disney, Johnny Depp will bring the man of La Mancha out of the pages and onto the big-screen. Deadline reports that Disney has closed a deal for an untitled film that will bring a modern twist to the Miguel De Cervantes novel Don Quixote.
Depp will produce the film alongside his sister Christi Dembrowski’s production company Infinitum Nihil. Writer of the film, Jeff Morris will bring this classic novel into the modern day world with the help of writer-director Steve Pink.
There had long been rumors of Depp working on a Don Quixote project with director Terry Gilliam, but after years of jumping on and off board, Depp finally made the decision to go on his own direction. So far, Depp is only signed on as a producer, only time will tell if he will go on to star in the film as well. Fans can see Depp in the Disney remake of The Lone Ranger, which his sister’s company also produced, this summer when it hits theaters July 3.
