Mastodon Reportedly Recording Song for New Monsters, Inc. Movie

Kids entertainment might be the last thing Mastodon brings to mind, but the veteran Atlanta-based shredders recently announced on their Facebook page that they’ll be writing and recording a song for the new Monsters, Inc. movie.

This is not the first the Mastodon has written music for film. In 2010 they wrote the score for the comic-book-turned-feature film Jonah Hex. Though it was based on a comic book, Jonah Hex wasn’t exactly a kids movie, though, so it will be interesting to hear what the hard rockers have in store for the next Monsters, Inc. installment, which is titled Monsters University. The film follows students Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan 10 years before Monsters, Inc.. Billy Crystal and John Goodman are set to reprise their roles, with Steve Buscemi also making a return as Randall Boggs.

Request for comment from their management was not immediately returned.
