In Wake of Newtown Tragedy, Weinstein Company Cancels Django Unchained's L.A. Premiere
In the wake of Friday’s tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, The Weinstein Company has canceled the Los Angeles premiere of Django Unchained which was originally scheduled to take place tonight.
A spokesperson for the Weinstein Company released a statement giving their deepest condolences to the families and those affected by the horrific events and gave details on how the film would now be seen.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the tragedy in Newtown, Conn. and in this time of national mourning we have decided to forgo our scheduled event,” the statement read. “However, we will be holding a private screening for the cast and crew and their friends and families.”
The highly anticipated Django Unchained is Quentin Tarantino’s take on Italian westerns. The film stars Golden Globe Nominee Leonardo Dicaprio, Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson and Kerry Washington. Django Unchained is set to open in theaters on Christmas Day.
