Writers For Parks and Rec Discuss Return of "Treat Yo' Self"
Last season, the writers of Parks and Rec created possibly the best day that anyone could ever experience. A day that is devoted to treating yourself with anything that your heart desires, which they appropriately called “Treat Yo’ Self.” According to TV Guide the writers have been kicking around the idea of revisiting the day of luxury for an upcoming episode of the NBC series.
The brainchild of Tom and Donna, “Treat Yo’ Self” is their annual tradition of devoting an entire day to spoiling themselves rotten—and feeling no remorse.
“We’ve certainly talked about it because it was a thing that caught on with the fans and the internet lit up, but it’s very risky to do that,” executive producer Mike Schur told TV Guide. “You can only do it if it’s better than the first time, because there’s nothing worse than a disappointing sequel.”
The original “Treat Yo’ Self” highlighted the quirkiness and love in Tom and Retta’s relationship and allowed for the comedy in their characters to really shine.
“We really loved it and we thought it was really funny and I think it’s maybe the funniest that Retta’s ever been,” Schur continued. “It’s maybe one of my favorite Tom episodes and everyone was great, but we’re only going to do it if we can do it in a way that feels like it’s something new and different and more fun than the first time.”
Only time will tell if audiences will get to see a “Treat Yo’ Self” sequel. Be sure to tune into NBC every Thursday at 9:30 p.m. to catch new episodes of Parks and Rec..
