Twitter feeds and Facebook status updates are abuzz with talk of the Arctic-like temperatures that are blanketing the country. This video from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration shows the gradual movement of (actually from the Arctic) air that started descending on the northern states on the 19th, and continued to cover the country in the days following.

The data from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (or just NCEP and NOAA) is collected in real time with mesoscale meteorology (the large-scale study of weather systems). The results are a’hem, quite chilling.
