Facebook added a new feature to the iPhone version of the Facebook Messenger app which allows free calling over Wi-Fi or cellular data connection to other iPhone users who have the app and are located in the United States and Canada, according to the BBC.
The Facebook Messenger app is limited to voice calling, but users can still access video calling through the Skype software that is already incorporated into Facebook’s website.
iPhone users can access the feature through the Facebook Messenger app by tapping the “i” in the upper right corner and selecting “free call.”
Calls cannot be made to Facebook users logged in through the website or to landlines.
Facebook is also working on adding the free calling feature to the Android and BlackBerry versions of the Facebook Messenger app and extending the feature overseas.
