Joaquin Phoenix to Star in Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice
Following the success of The Master, Variety reports that Joaquin Phoenix will be reteaming with Paul Thomas Anderson for the director’s upcoming adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s revisionist detective novel, Inherent Vice.
Published in 2009, Inherent Vice is an L.A.-based mystery-comedy centering on the exploits of a pothead private investigator named Larry “Doc” Sportello. Robert Downey, Jr. was previously reported to be playing Sportello, but it looks as though Phoenix will be taking his place.
After a rough career patch surrounding his critically derided mockumentary I’m Still Here, Phoenix seems to be back on track. This year, he was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for his performance in The Master.
