Justin Timberlake Rumored to Release New Album Soon
Update: Timberlake has released “Suit And Tie,” his first single in seven years, which features a verse by Jay-Z and was produced by Timbaland. You can stream it at Timberlake’s website as well as read an open letter to him from fans here.
Sources for Billboard say Justin Timberlake is expected to release a new album in 2013. The album, which was produced entirely by Timbaland, would feature a selection of the 20 rumored tracks he’s recorded. This album would mark the end of a five-year hiatus from his music career after acting in films like The Social Network and Trouble With the Curve. While we’ve loved seeing his acting side as much, if not more, we’re excited to see a return to music.
Timberlake released a video statement today#! through Twitter: “I’ve only done two albums in 10 years. That’s the way I look at it. What does the next decade mean for me? I’m the one that’s obsessive about it before you even get to hear it. As close as I get to it, I don’t know that I could physically torture myself that much year in and year out … I don’t want to put anything out that I feel is something that I don’t love. You don’t get that every day. You have to wait for it.”
What follows is a countdown, which currently has something (maybe a single, maybe the album) hitting in three days.
Rumors started when a Florida radio station announced Timberlake was working on a new record. Timberlake’s ambiguous tweet today was enough to send all of his fans to a hopeful place. He tweeted, “Thursday, January 10th, 2013 at 9:01 am PST…” Billboard’s sources said the tweet signifies new music, which could be instantly released. Check back later today for Timberlake’s announcement.
Timberlake’s most recent album, FutureSex/LoveSounds, was released in 2006 and went platinum four times.
