Man Man Planning New Album for Summer

Man Man fans have a reason to smile as 2013 will see the Philadelphia band’s fifth LP, and the group will be road testing the new tracks on tour starting next month.

In an upcoming interview with Paste, Man Man frontman Honus Honus talked about their next album, written feverishly over the summer with bandmate Pow Pow, then recorded in Omaha over three weeks last November, again with Life Fantastic producer Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, Monsters of Folk).

Whereas their 2011 release Life Fantastic was seen as a change in tone, both musically and lyrically, Honus Honus cautions audiences not to expect “Life Fantastic 2.0,” but that the album will be a “natural progression.” Honus notes, “I can’t write the same songs I did when I was 23. It would be a disservice to me and anyone who enjoys what we do.”

The singer envisions the album as both “refreshing and surprising,” adding that “anyone who listens to this and thinks that it sounds like other Man Man records isn’t really listening.”

Yet, he also assures that it will be a “natural extension,” and that all of the Man Man albums connect through his “inability to pass through life in a normal manner, anchored by (his) fucked up voice.”

The album still needs a title, a track list and mixing before it hits shelves, but summer is the goal if all of their deadlines are met.

Until then, you can be the first to hear new Man Man material on their winter co-headlining tour with Murder By Death. Check out the dates below, and keep an eye out for our full interview with Honus Honus from Man Man.
